This campaign had some back lash as people were comprising it to the recent tragedy of Kobe Bryant's fatal accident. The felt that the crashing and burning of Mr. Peanut seemed out of touch. Why did they do this? According to CNBC " turns out killing off the iconic 104-year-old nut had to do with the phenomenon of how people mourn the deaths of fictional characters, such as Iron Man". This past Sunday was the Superbowl Planters released the second part to this campaign reviving Mr. peanut. You can see the ad here.

As mentioned earlier the company dialed back their focus on the story line days later after NBA legend Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash. Although Planters claimed the tragedy didn't affect their Super Bowl plans, the company said they would "evaluate next steps through a lens of sensitivity to those impacted by this tragedy" reported by CNN.
